Gynecomastia Surgery
Filed Under Gynecomastia Surgery | 1 Comment
Gynecomastia frequently leads to low self esteem and loss of self confidence as well as a great amount of embarrassment. Treating gynecomastia properly can help many men regain a fuller social life and increase their confidence dramatically.
Gynecomastia treatments and cures range from diet and exercise to herbal and hormone treatments to cosmetic surgery for men (gynecomastia surgery).
Obviously surgery is the most extreme option and with so many alternatives available it is easy to avoid the possibly dangerous and expensive surgery option. See cost for gynecomastia surgery.
While gynecomastia surgery is fairly common, there are still risks involved.
Men, who are not overweight, are non smokers, and who do not drink are eligible candidates for male breast reduction procedures.
In some rare cases it can be possible to get gynecomastia surgery on the NHS.
There Are Two Main Techniques Used In Cosmetic Surgery For Men, for Male Breast Reduction
Commonly, one of two techniques may be adopted by the surgeon to flatten and firm the chest, namely liposuction and excision.
Liposuction: This method would be chosen if the main cause for the gynecomastia is too much fatty tissue. A slim, hollow tube called a cannula would be inserted through a number of small incisions and moved backwards and forwards in a controlled manner. The excess fat would thereby be loosened. Vacuum suction is then used to rid the body of this excess fat. Laser aided SmartLipo liposuction is a well-known and safe method resorted to reduce undesirably big male breasts.
Excision: Excision would be the procedure resorted to if the chief reason for the gynecomastia is too much glandular tissue or excess skin. This procedure is also recommended if the position of the nipple has to be changed to achieve a male contour that’s more natural.
These surgical procedures are carried out under general anesthesia and last for about two hours. The patient is usually discharged on the same day; in some cases an overnight stay at the hospital may be recommended.
Following breast reduction surgery, the patient may have to wear an elastic pressure garment for a couple of weeks to assist in decreasing the swelling. Theoretically he can be back on his feet in about 2 days and return to his active lifestyle routine within a month. The recovery time varies from one person to another.

A lot of men want to know if they can get gynecomastia surgery on the National Health Service (NHS) in the UK.
The short answer is maybe but very rarely.
It involves going to your GP and talking to him/her about it first, and then asking for a referral to see a plastic surgeon. You’ll first have to prove you’ve tried exercise and lost weight if you are overweight. Once you get to see a plastic surgeon, you will be assessed by them for suitability and eligibility, and also be seen by a psychiatrist to see how badly this is affecting you in your daily life.
If you have tried all else then surgery could be the answer for you, but if you can’t get the cosmetic surgery on the NHS, it will cost you at least a couple of thousand pounds to go private.
